Learn to swim?

I finally got around to watching An Inconvenient Truth. I had heard so many jokes about the movie and then of course Al Gore isn’t the most entertaining fellow in the world. I was a little surprised at the information the movie contained. I was also a little disappointed that such a powerful message is mired in politics as usual.

The message would be much clearer and well received if someone like Stephen Hawking were giving the speech. I commend Al Gore for trying to disseminate the information while at the same time I am disappointed in his attempt to water down the message with his politics. The issues covered in the film have nothing to do with the right or the left. The issues at hand should shock and unite the world not divide it.

I wish Gore would make the presentation available on the Internet. In any case, here are some of the topics covered:

“The number of Category 4 and 5 hurricanes has almost doubled in the last 30 years.

Malaria has spread to higher altitudes in places like the Colombian Andes, 7,000 feet above sea level.

The flow of ice from glaciers in Greenland has more than doubled over the past decade.

Global sea levels could rise by more than 20 feet with the loss of shelf ice in Greenland and Antarctica, devastating coastal areas worldwide.”

I’ve heard all the crap on Global Warming is real or it’s not real blah blah blah….. Sure we could be in a natural cycle of the Earth. We could be experiencing Global Warming or Hot Melting Pee Phenomenon for all I care. What I fail to understand is why so little is being done about it. We have facts that indicate bad things are happening. I am no scientist but it’s pretty clear that when a giant mass of ice melts after being frozen for thousands of years it’s not good. I don’t care what you want to call it but the polar icecaps are melting. That is a fact. Why are we arguing about facts? We know that the ice at the North Pole is melting. The fucking stuff is turning into liquid right now! I don’t care if Santa and his reindeer’s hot piss are melting the stuff I just want to fix it before Florida turns into a coral reef! The addition of that melting water in the ocean is bad unless you own property in Arizona Bay.

Asteroids are a natural part of the universe. Asteroids’ colliding with the Earth is a documented phenomenon. If there was a giant asteroid on a collision course with the Earth do you think we would sit around and argue how natural it was? HELL NO!!! We would band together as the population on Earth and commit every resource we had to try and stop the asteroid from slamming into the Earth and ending the existence of humans all together. Well unless we had to give up driving our SUV’s that is.
