Distance

Why is it that people are so distant? I went out to grab a quick lunch today and I really noticed how people avoid each other. Not just in avoiding running into each other but avoiding looking, talking, or interacting at all. It's like everyone has emerged from their safe dark hole long enough to get food. I don't think it would kill someone if they looked up and I smiled. Maybe they would think I was crazy or wanted to fuck them or eat them or who knows what..better look at the floor. Don't we need this human contact? Are we just too shielded from each other? We drive around in our protective cocoons all day so maybe its a vulnerability thing when we are exposed for the entire world to see we want a combo #4.
